Artist Statement

My artwork deals with themes of culture, identity, and the concept of self. I work in a variety of mediums with a focus on watercolor and digital illustration. My inspirations range from pop culture, music and comics, to flowers and nature imagery, as well as the histories, customs, and symbolism from my own cultural identity. Growing up mixed Hawaiian, Chinese, and white, I was raised in a unique blend of cultures and ideals.

I often include plants and animals that hold symbolism or personal value in my works. I work mostly in a representational style though my art is often not fully grounded in reality. My works will often include elements that are absurd or humorous, a reflection of my tendency to not take anything too seriously.
